Local news warns about firewood being no good

I don't think that's what he was implying, because I can tell ya there's just as many EPA stove owners with poor burning habits. I think what it all boils down to is getting your wood split and seasoned well-ahead of when you're gonna need to use it (3 years optimally), keeping your chimney clean (good burning habits AND a thorough understanding of how YOUR stove works), and common sense. Those traits make a good woodburner, not the stove.

Scotty what was he implying then, any body who makes those kind of statements about "smoke dragons" does not have a clue either.

I happen to have a "smoke dragon" too....see my signature. I run it responsibly and it does the job nicely. I still call it a smokedragon, its just a nickname. I think that a handful of irresponsible people can give a stove the bad name, which in the grand scheme of things makes everybody that uses them look bad (look at politics for an example of a few bad apples spoiling the bunch).

Calm down Buddy, I dont remember mentioning you in my statement, I was talking about ONE specific guy that probably burns a smoke dragon which burn differently than the current epa stoves do, as long as the wood is seasoned it doesnt matter what species of wood you burn, it sounds like the GUY, not YOU, that made the statement isnt versed in how current epa stoves burn, hence my smoke dragom comment, it wasnt a blanket statement on all smoke dragon burners as we have some members here that burn smoke dragons and know a lot about burning, I learned what I know from people here, 5 years ago I would have believed the what the guy said but after educating myself I know hes wrong. Ask anyone from Colorado who burns a wood stove.

No, its not a put down to anyone but the guy in the article, its not a put down to anyone that burns a smoke dragon, a pellet stove, rocket stove or any other king of stove.
He said hes been burning for 40 years so he must have burned a smoke dragon (Him not anyone else that burns any type of wood stove), his statement about the wood is wrong, if the wood is seasoned it wont cause the harm hes saying, all Im saying it was a good opportunity to tell people that were taking this wood that they shouldnt burn it without seasoning it, if you burn pine without seasoning it then it can cause some problems but thats because its being burned without being seasoned not because of the type of wood.
How is that an insult to someone burning a smoke dragon oldspark? I ask because my intention is not to insult anyone but it was a statement in response to what the guy in the article said, not anyone that burns a smoke dragon, just a guy thats not familiar with modern burning practices.

You could just ask me directly what I meant if you had a problem with it instead of trying to figure out what I meant by asking Scotty. I wasnt making a blanket statement that all smoke dragon users are ignorant, didnt say anything near that, I was saying the guy in the article, who appears to burn a smoke dragon based on his statements about burning bad wood, you know that evil pine that will rot your house from the inside out.

You said it was a good time to warn people about burning unseasoned wood and you get a smoke dragon user giving advice.
What the hell am I supposed to get out of that?

I see how you could come to that conclusion but as I explained thats not what I meant, I guess I should have expanded my statement as not to offend anyone, some times the fingers work faster than the brain.I aplogize to anyone that I may have offended as it was not my intent and I still dont think someone that burns a smoke dragon doesnt know what they're doing, just this particular guy. After you've been on this earth for many years you can see how things can be taken one way when not intended, and thanks for addressing me directly Oldspark.

No problem, some of the dumb statements were made by the fire marshall, smoke dragons aren't really smoke dragons unless the operator is brain dead. ;)

Buddy, there may be a few with that attitude but I think you will find many, many more that are on here to help rather than tear down or put down. Sure, I run into a couple that have poor attitudes and very poor communication skills but overall, I think there are a good bunch of guys on here and even a few good knowledgeable gals. But the communication skills is the big thing and very few have the knack. I hope I am not one of them as I try to be helpful as much as possible.

Looks like it is time to cool this thread a bit. This sort of badgering or arguing is not good as it serves no useful service. As I stated, communication skills are really important but seem to be difficult for some. That does not make them bad but can cause some confusion and even some arguing.

Yeah if this place thought the old stoves were dumb or evil we wouldn't have a whole forum section just for them. Let's give the heated banter a little rest.

Everybody already knows I am the only one that thinks he is better than everybody else. ;lol
