Damn fine stuff going on. I second on that skull flask, that is something else. The color change from before and after is amazing.

What is that fluff sprig in the mug in the first picture?
  7. Adios Pantalones Minister of Fire

Thanks guys. That was one of those hosta stalks. Some plant stalks like that leave interesting ash marks- I think they are really high in silica

I've said it before, AP......awesome work, my man......
you have very interesting mediums, too. I like the alien man with the huge mouth/snout. That's my fave.....

The skull mugs are pretty cool, too. And I'm amazed at how neat the 'charred' look is after firing in that kiln.....love your work, brother.....

    Thanks all!
Potter- I feel like I'm hitting my stride lately- probably because I have time to dedicate now as I am only a chemist 3 days a week. The greenware building up in my studio is doing its own thing- I'm having way too much fun.

Jags- that is a glaze that includes silica and woodstove ash over another glaze that includes red clay (I dug it up in SC) and more ash. Ash acts as a flux, making things drippy The high silica level opacifies the top glaze, the iron in red clay normally makes a glaze green.

Anyway- I started getting crazy special effects like the red clay has rutile in it (titanium bearing mineral), so I called a friend in SC and he told me the worlds largest rutile mine was in GA right near there so it's in the soil naturally. So some of that blue is from rutile.

    Chemistry is fun.
