Might be silly question but I have to ask.
Trying to avoid buying another & selling what I have.

By the time you finished chopping the unit and getting it to fit, you will probably find it probably won't work and that it will be un-sellable when you need a pellet stove that does work. On top of that, if the modified unit causes any damage to your house you might have a hard time getting any insurance money. If you want an insert, sell the one you have while it is still worth something and put the money into a unit designed to be an insert.
