I've read that it's recommended that stove pipe sections be secured using a minimum of 3 screws, but also using high temperature adhesive/cement. Is it necessary? Seems like it would make cleaning the stove pipe much more difficult.

Don't use adhesive or you will have a big mess - this for the black pipe sections. Obviously the class A is a different story.
Even a properly installed stove pipe will not need any cement or adhesives, except perhaps at the flue collar on the stove.
