Wood burning insert with cook top?

Right now it's just rusty metal. Any suggestions short of a complete firebox rebuild?

Any pics? Maybe cleaning it up and painting with stove paint would work!?

I should probably ask this in a home builders forum, but I wonder if any tile or stuff-that-looks-like-tile would be okay in the firebox. This assumes that we would never use the fireplace itself, so the tile would only have to handle the heat from the stove.

Wire brush the rust away, wipe down with alcohol and paint with a high temp paint. Getting the tile to bond would be an issue. Though I suppose a layer of cement board could be secured and then tiled over.
