They have to pay to dump them. This guys been to my house before. Another company dropped some unsplitable garbage. I can be picky.
I sure have become a wood snob, I have better ways to waste time then fighting logs on my splitter, I give the guys on the truck 20$

Hmm, reputable tree service guys are just that. And have been around the block a dozen times, and rely on repeat customers. I would talk to them in a matter of fact way. Logs?, got some?, how much, need a couple cord worth, ok, cost, ok, when, sounds good - thats what I would want to here. An LLC that ditzed around and communicated like you had would get no repeat calls from me, free wood, cost per load, whatever. If he stopped by in a pickup, hmm, really?

I don’t understand why folks are getting bent out of shape. This is a simple transaction... “Can I dump wood? Yes, provided...” Seems like everyone wins except for the people griping about how a fair deal isn’t a good deal for the people who are glad to be in it.
Thanks blitz! I tell people what I expect, he could have told me to go scratch. I get free logs, minus the 20$ I gave guys who delivered it, tree business has less weight to pay to dump. Win win! It was trailered by a chip truck with a boom and bucket. I imagine it was the stump grinder trailer, maybe 8x12. I’ve done this before, I wasn’t home got some good logs along with chunks I didn’t wanna deal with, half yard of chips and the garbage left over from lunch.
Here’s what I received this time, guessing it was dead standing, another half dozen logs I moved to splitter. I call it a score.

Spoke to my tree guy last week. Around here they are charged $45 per ton to drop off rounds, which can add up quick for freshly cut wood. Chips not so much of a problem to dispose of. His firewood sales drops off substantially in February so he does accumulate a surplus of wood at times.

I’m not bent out of shape. I think Rob is lucky and he did get a good score(especially because they bucked them down for him too.) It was nice he gave the guy 20.
I’m just saying if he has a good saw he could of cut up the tough pieces better and would have more wood than less wood. Also means the arborists had to sort out two different loads and drive to two different drop off locations. Time. Gas. Money.

More of a culture shock than what i would call "bent outta shape" lol. Around here you can take uglies and junk wood to the city dump no charge and if someone brings me free wood im not gunna complain cuz it aint pretty enough or fit my high standards. Id b glad to have somone that did all that work to give it to me. But like rob711 said the guy has to pay to get rid of it where he is at so its a completely different circumstance and a win win for both parties imo.

My guy drops off loads of straight logs between, usually around 10-12 , 10 - 15 ft. long.....last load was mostly Oak with a few Maple and an Ash.......FREE
This is the same way I get all of my firewood. No, I'm not dealing with the trash I can't burn. Why would I want a bunch of rotten but logs, crotches, elm, etc? I want wood I can split and burn, and that trash isn't doing me any good. If saying I don't want trash means they don't drop anything that's fine too.

I've been using 2 tree companies so far to refill my wood bins. This was the last load I got in January:
A lot of ash, some big pines, red and norway maples, and a couple of birch logs. There were knotty pieces and one log had some crazy twisted grain but nothing a lot of swearing and wedges couldn't handle!
I'll be asking him again for another load next month. Any truly crap wood, I'll still accept it and cut it, but that goes to my brother in law for his outdoor fire pit

It's impossible to know what's coming when they drop it off, best they do for me is an email that says "hey we dropped wood off at your place.." Things like pine or cottonwood I'd never go out of my way to get if I'm cutting trees down. But at least if it's being dropped off in my driveway I'm not wasting time hauling "bad" wood so its a good deal regardless. The pine and birch works great for my shoulder season needs, once I reach around 3 cords of that kind of stuff I'm satisfied. The rest of the my wood bins contain ash and better so it's ok if it ends up sitting around for a few years.
