Just bought a Super 27 and have an IR gun. I'm trying to figure out the emissivity of the PE super. Messing around with the emissivity setting you can get a larger swing in stove top temps. I have it set at .80 currently. I've found the tables that list various metals just not sure which type of steel the PE top is made from. I'll call PE in the morning if I don't get a response and post what they say.

A painted black stove will have an emissivity of close to 1: http://www.omega.com/prodinfo/infraredthermometer.html
"If the material, or a portion of it, can be coated, a dull black paint will have an emissivity of approx. 1.0."

Was gonna make some wise-crack about crowning someone "Nerd King Deluxe", when I thought nobody would answer. Now, well ...

Guess I'll just go lay by my dish. ;em
