When it is someone you know who has a chimney fire and their house burns down it really hits home. This was caused by an old non-epa woodstove on the back sunroom being vented into a terracotta lined chimney, a buildup of creosote in the chimney caught on fire and it even exploded the chimney before the fire ripped through the attic and destroyed the house, a total loss, thank goodness no one was hurt. They lost pretty much everything they had acquired throughout their lives :(

THIS is why you treat fire with respect when you bring it into your home!

Thanks for the reminder and the ride-along ... sorry they lost everything.

As a hobby, I work and restore antique steam tractors. Alot of fire, up to 150 psi saturated steam pressure and heavy out in the open , moving parts. An old timer told me once, be respectful of the forces you're dealing with. His definition of respect was, being on the verge of afraid but with knowledge to control these forces.
So sorry to hear of this terrible tragedy. Thoughts and prayers to this family.

That is so sad. My FIL had a completely illegal and dangerous stove installation. I always sat beside the doorway when I visited. They never had a chimney fire and it's that attitude of being'fine' that gets people into trouble.
What a tragedy.

That's a terrible loss. Terrible and avoidable.
