I cut firewood as often as possible from early spring to late fall, trying to get ahead a few years. I have a few family members that burn wood for heat, but not 100% like me, as I have no other way to heat my home. One person bought a couple cords of prime firewood, had it delivered and stacked 100 yards away from their house. He said it would be fine. I think he might have burned 1/4 of what he bought, the rest will lay and rot due to the fact that he is too lazy to pack it the 100 yards to the house, and is too lazy to keep a fire much less build one. All summer I argued with him about his fireplace, how it would suck up most of the heat he gets from the fire. The fireplace's heat output surprised me, but still he wasted money and wood saying he is gonna burn wood this year, but fell way short. End of Family member No. 1.------ On to family member No.2 (which is why I posted in the first place) Again I cut firewood every chance I get. Multiple times I asked No.2 If he needed help getting some firewood, or if he helps me get a load, I would help him get a load. His reply was that he was going to buy a gas fireplace and use gas. "Ok", I said, fair enough. Later on he asked me if it would be cheaper to buy gas for a generator, and use that to power his heat pump. I said, "No! Don't think it would be cheaper at all".. Multiple times I asked if he needed help, and multiple times I got the -"im going to use gas" as a reply..... I struggled last year to get what I needed, not sure If it was enough to do me all winter, and im still running way behind, my stack is looking pretty slim right now, but anyways----------- It got cold and stayed cold for about a month here on the east coast. Anyone guess what happens soon as the forecaster called for snow and cold weather? Kudos if you said- "No. 2 came and asked if you could give him some firewood"..... yup,, he came for a visit, and while he was here, asked, "Man, its gonna get cold, my heatpump don't work, could you spare some wood so I can stay warm?" Generous as I am, I gave him a small truckload of wood, but told him I might not have much to spare, and If I was him, I would saw up some wood that I left at our cutting location.. which should have been starting to season, but he insisted on cutting down a beech and a hard maple and he was trying to burn that last time I visited him....Man, I hate when I work all year to get my wood, offer to help someone gather theirs, they decline, then want to bum me out of what I worked to get.. He even had the gall to ask me If id him cut a beech n maple, which I wouldn't care to help him, but he wanted to cut them when it was zero degrees outside. I don't cut when its that cold for myself, much less someone else... Anyone have firewood bums?
