This book is a great resource for anyone who burns wood. It really gets into the science of using "wood as energy" as stated on the cover of the book. I have no ties to the author or publishing company. The copy I have appears to be the 5th edition from October 1977. The author is Jay Shelton for section 1, and Andrew B. Shapiro for sections 2 & 3.

You will gain more knowledge about heating with wood than you ever thought possible.

I have not , I have a couple others though.

I was most surprised by the scientific research and data that is put into this encyclopedia. I wasn't expecting that at all.

I'd don't think there's much I need to learn. But for anyone that's fairly new to this it's a resource for some knowledge. Or just spend some time here and question the seasoned pro's.

It's not about what we "need" to learn. I've learned all I "need" to know from several generations of wood burners. This book isn't just geared for new wood burners. It's for anyone who isn't affraid to learn what they don't yet know:)

Thanks for the info. Always good to have new reading material. Been burning for a long time but still enjoy reading about it.
Here are a few I keep around:

Good resource. I go back and reread this on occasion and always learn something new, or get reminded of something I have forgotten.

There's no way I can remember everything I read the first time, especially with books like this one. Full of useful information, and backed up by scientific studies & research.
