2025 Pellet Prices

Same question here in CT. Right now oil price is only $2.66/ gallon and much less work than pellets. Pellet prices here are $409-$450/ton

Oil prices by me are $3.50 and seem to be rising. I live in rural NY State. Pellets are still cheaper for me. That said, I would use pellets even if the cost were similar. We're home all day, 7 days per week and like the toasty heat of the pellet stove, especially in the main part of our small house where we spend the most time. If we used the furnace, we would never get our living room as nice and warm as we do.

According the the $/MBTU and average prices according to the state, it looks like it is a toss-up between using the mini split and the pellet stove. I have used the mini split a couple of early mornings when the house got cold. But when it comes to actually needing heat, pellet stoves win for comfort. The only heat downstairs is pellet stove anyway - so at least one of the stoves is always running during winter. NG would be nice if it was actually available in my area. But I'm way far away and even if they started laying lines it wouldn't make it here in my lifetime.

Starting to do my pellet research for the 2025- 2026 heating season here in Massachusetts.

I've looked at 5 different pellet suppliers and prices vary from $390-$545 per ton depending on brand, wood species and quality. Delivery varies from $50 to $85 for a total order.

I'm not sure if the prices are effected by tariffs, but most of the pellets I am looking at are US produced.

I know prices go up every year but at 4 tons delivered, I'm looking at about $1,800. I'm contemplating only buying 2 and using my furnace more.

Wondering others are seeing for pricing in there area.

Looks like my Home Depot haslots of pellets ! PEI gives us 10% off that price. I have 2 pallets in the driveway(140 bags) to load into the garage.
I thought I'd leave them in the driveway but I'm getting tired of looking at them.

I had 3 tons delivered from HD early September. I they were on sale for something like $319/ton (a big $10 off, but it was still a savings). I had a 10% discount so used that - which in effect paid for the delivery cost ($75), plus a little back in my pocket.

I had to move the remaining 2 tons that were already in the garage into the basement. These are actual tons, not the 60 bag "tons". The machine they use for delivering pellets won't fit in my garage, but they did me a solid and pushed in the first two tons.

They would have pushed in the 3rd ton, but that would not have left me room to maneuver the pallets into their final positions. I now have 2 tons on the north wall and 1 ton on the east wall with the pallet jack under it

I'm pretty sure they are some flavor of Green Supreme - which flavor will be the surprise when I open them up later in the season.

If that price is delivered, that would be nice. Are they good burning? Mine are made in Nova Scotia, all softwood.

I looked them up - yes it could be a surprise. Somewhere on that web site there were a bunch of pictures of peoples stashes.

Usually, it is the Northeast blend that I get from Home Depot since one of those plants is very close to me (actually most plants from NY to PA to here in NH produce Northeast blend). However, last year I recieved GS Midwestern Hard Wood (100% HW - I believe made in Michigan so way far away from me). I really like the the way the HW is bagged as there are nor breathing holes, so no chance of the pellets soaking up moisture from the air (garage and basement are very humid in summer). I do NOT like the amount of dust in the bags. But, they burn about the same temp as the NE blend, so that is good enough for me.

The best GS I've ever gotten was the Allegheny Mountain Hardwood. Unfortunately, they were very expensive at $6.98/bag in 2022 or 23, so I just got 5 bags to try. They burned very hot and were the fourth hottest pellet I've tried (below Cubex, Fusion Blend and La Crete). I would not be crying in my soup if the 3 tons I got this year turned out to be those

That is pickup price, delivery is extra, usually around $50. I have not burned them yet so will find out. I have other pellets still leftover in stock from my other order last year so if I have to switch it won't be too bad. Should be all Hardwood.

$50 CAD was my price too for as many pallets as I wanted. I think they charge more if you live a long way from the store. It is worth it as it takes a guy quite a bit of time to unload and load the fork lift. I sure wish I had a higher garage door. They have 70 bags on a pallet so they are pretty tall. I should have doublechecked and asked if he could push them in. I didn't have anything for him to push with though. Next year I will have two empty pallets as they don't want them back.

They don't need anything to push them in. They can extend the forks to some degree, then pull the forks about 1/2 way and do it again. Then, each loaded pallet is used to push the previous pallets in further.

Just got my pellets delivered. It turned out someone made holes in two separate bags and pellets were falling out.
I had the guy position the holes on the outside so I can patch. Going to the store to get two free bags or a refund. We had heavy
rain last night, and the pellets are dry. The guy said someone else loaded the truck this morning and did the damage. Otherwise
they would be wet. I checked out the pallets in the parking lot and didn't see the damage before.
Edit I got a refund for 2 bags. I duck taped the holes white plastic cover but can't get at the bags. I am considering unloading that pallet into the garage as I would be carrying in about 2 weeks worth at a time anyway later. I would rather do it every two weeks though.
I have a tarp over it and tied around. Might add some more protection for the holes later.

Above it how the bags of pellets are selling this year. I see a big jump since this cold weather. I am burning way more.

I buy my pellets when my dealer has an early buy in the spring.
3 pallets, 41/2 ton. He stores them indoors, then in September, he
delivers the first pallet to my back porch . My sons then stack
them on the sealed porch . This year's second pallet was delivered to the
same place, stacked in the same porch, at the end of December. The new
need will be sometime in March. That will finish the year, and I will
most likely have 1/2 ton left . Only to do it all over again
next fall. In the 24 years dealing with Ferguson Engery I have never
had a cut, forklift speared or otherwise split bag
