2025 Pellet Prices

Starting to do my pellet research for the 2025- 2026 heating season here in Massachusetts.

I've looked at 5 different pellet suppliers and prices vary from $390-$545 per ton depending on brand, wood species and quality. Delivery varies from $50 to $85 for a total order.

I'm not sure if the prices are effected by tariffs, but most of the pellets I am looking at are US produced.

I know prices go up every year but at 4 tons delivered, I'm looking at about $1,800. I'm contemplating only buying 2 and using my furnace more.

Wondering others are seeing for pricing in there area.

I buy middle of the road pellets and find GS (not the green bags) from HD at $314 or MWPs for the same price at TSC.

I was doing some research on the pellets I buy. It turns out the plant is in Nova Scotia where I am from.

I am going to my Home Depot today to check out the pallet size and the forklift they use. I'm not sure where
I will be keeping the pallets. I don't think I could get them into my garage, and that would probably be a waste of
space. They shrink wrap them plus I could add a tarp. I'll have to cut the top to start getting them off.
If anyone else buys by the pallet and keeps them outside please pass along any tips.

$7.76 per bag - but there was a rebate last year so that rebate should still be there. I will check.

Price is the same as last year $7.76 and 10% off = $6.98 per bag before tax is applied.
No way I could ever get the pallets in my garage. 76" High x 40" x 46"
I am not going to be unpacking them . They will have to go in front of the garage.
The forklift is very big, like 8 ft wide with huge 15" wide tires. I might be able
to put them on a dirt/grass area beside the garage if he runs over my hosta's
which probably won't kill them.

I did a search and only found this. Looks like you are getting a wicked price.
I hope that new vent works out well.
Will you store them outside?

No on the spring buys; they store the pallets in September. I will have one pallet
delivered and store it on my enclosed back porch. Around the first of the year,
The second one will be delivered, and sometime in March, the third will come
my way
They store and deliver for free

I will have to pay 55$ as I'm only a couple of km's from the store, and will get 2pallets. If I was really keen and younger I would
hand bomb them into my garage in a neat pile. I don't need to lift 140 40lb bags.
Are you saying they will stack them in your porch? That's great !

Hey, time to get the grandson? helping? At 60 I am still strong, but bending and repetitive jobs get to my back. Plus I need
to retain strength to hoist my beer around at that's 5 gallons or 50 lbs.

That's why I have a cart to take the Keg from the cold room to the Kegerator

I've stored pallets of pellets outside before, and may do so again this year. Way back in 2016 there were "fire" sales in the spring because of the mild winter so I got 14 tons (at the time I was going thru about 5 tons/year - before I got the basement insulated). They were $100/ton AND free delivery from 30+ miles away.

3 tons I hand stacked in the garage (I already had 3 tons in the basement), and 10 tons sat outside, and I got 1 ton in my shed. Since I wouldn't need those pellets that year, I used pallet wrapping around them (industrial saran wrap), then covered with a tarp. The next spring I hand carried 5-6 tons to the house. Then the following year I carried the rest in.

Since you will be using the pellets, the extra wrap is unnecessary, but a tarp might be a good idea. My best advice is to use empty pallets as a base and have them set the full pallets placed on top of those. That way it keeps the bottom bags from sitting in wet/snowy ground/grass.

First pic is from 2017 of 6 tons still wrapped but with the tarp removed. The second pic is after unwrapping and before I toted them all to the house. I used the cart to pull 6 bags at a time to the house. Since then, I've gotten smarter and load about 25 bags in the Explorer and drive them over.

I guess I will just move my trailer and get them to put them right on my driveway next to by porch door. I can add an extra tarp too. I will have to cut a flap about a foot down to drag out the first bag. I'd like to hand bomb them into the garage but I'm trying to cut out the lifting.
