I bought a Breckwell wood/corn pellet stove 2 years ago and have it installed in my walkout basement/family room area. No real problems as long as I keep the hopper clean from fines and such. As my house is actually 3 floors (4400sq ft) my propane usage is tracking about 1000gal will be burned this winter. I think that is kind of high. That's why I bought the pellet stove because I wanted to burn less propane. It does help in the lower level but not much good for the other two levels.
The main floor has a 54 inch hearth that when its going heats up things pretty well. Just hate tending the fire. Already burned 2 cords so far. I really need to get a splitter and get busy before too long for next year. My wood choices to cut on my land are mainly Holly, Cotton wood, and Mulberry.
So in the 1100sq ft loft area I am thinking of putting a second pellet stove up there and only running it when its fairly cold. This is a very large open area that overlooks the dining and living room areas. The thought I am having is that a pellet stove up there with the cathedral ceiling fans going should help but to what extent is my question. Just figuring new stove, piping, pad, pellets/corn I could burn quite a bit of propane before it equaled the cost of a new stove set up. I did happen on a new American Harvest for under a $1000 that's on clearance right now. Anyone out there been down this road?
Forgot to add I have been lurking here for a while, great forum
