Hi,

I have a 22T Husky splitter I bought back in 2012 or so. The machine has served me well over the years.

Lately I have been thinking about getting a 4 way wedge and was wondering if anyone has any experience with this? There are apparently two options for this:

1) Clip on wedge (looks weak, website says its only good for softwood but some say hard wood is ok if you are careful, $80)

2) Full wedge replacement (looks really beefy but would be $240, which is more than 1/4 what the entire splitter cost!)

Has anyone had experience with either of these and can offer any perspective?

Thanks
John

I had $65 in the 4-way I made for my old Speeco and it worked very well..I started by cutting of the existing wedge that was attached to the push ram and replaced it with a push plate...I then cut off the butt plate and I ordered up a 12 in wedge and 2 -6 inch wedges for the wings..this takes away your vertical option but I didnt care as it stepped up my splitting game by a good bit...then I decided to sell firewood and bought a commercial splitter...otherwise I would still be running the old Speeco..

Thanks guys. Pretty nice mod Tar12.

I think I will just not bother then. Been splitting for 7 years without a 4 way.

It is faster.. and the wedge i have you can change out in about 30 seconds .. but you do need to watch what you run through.. thwre arr times that i will split with the 4 way for over and hour straight whith out changing out to the regular wedge.. that cuts the time down alot because your splitting once and getting twice the wood.. theres a system to it and if set up properly youll cut your time down.. alot.. you just cant run 18 in stuff through it..alot of my stuff gets big and needs to be quartered anyway. So i when quartering it up i split it for the 4 way to go through.. if you purchase a permanent 4 way your have problems in the vertical position .. try the 4 way youll fined you like it

I took the plunge. Will post some pics and thoughts once I use it.

The clip on 4 way wedge is about worthless, because like woodsplitter said they only work on a curtain size of wood, and if it's stringy, forget it.
Agreed. I bought the clip on wedge but don't use it. I tried it once but it didn't line up well with different sizes.
