A newbie, Issue with USSC 5660

A true newbie here, we inherited two pellet stoves with our new (i.e., new to us) and the US Stove Company model 5660 was working fine (though a bit loud, as noted elsewhere) until last week. First it seemed to run too many pellets into the burn box, faster than they would burn. Then it wouldn't start, giving an error code that the pellets aren't igniting, though I could clearly see that they are. For the second problem, I bypassed the low temperature sensors on a recommendation by USSC's support guy (he said to call back for a replacement if this solves the problem). I though this would also solve the first problem but it hasn't.

Any pointers for the newbie to pellet stoves?
 
Clean the hell out of it. Google leaf blower cleaning for pellet stove. Sounds like you're not flowing enough air.

Which control panel is on that stove?

It is the older version of the control panel, on the side, with indicator lights (not the digits of the newer version).

I have cleaned it but am learning that ash gets into EVERYthing. Time to replace the shop vac with an ash vac.

Have you tried putting a drywall dust filter on the ShopVac filter? That did the trick for us. No dust at all comes out of the vac. It protects the motor better too.
 
I use the drywall bags in my shop vac. No dust.

Also the ash getting all in the stove crevices is why I suggest the leaf blower.

The shop vac is not very powerful anyway and should be replaced.
 
Maine Choice pellets (hardwood, low ash, etc.). There is lever on the inflow that appears to be halfway open; it was that way when we moved in and the stove was working well up to a week ago.

Burn pot gasket seems OK but I wonder about when to replace gaskets. To repeat, I'm still learning a lot here.

Thanks to all who responded. The new ash vac made cleaning so much easier. Following USSC's video on cleaning helped a lot. Spending the time to clean everything thoroughly did the trick. The stove is back to it's usual (noisy) self.

You get my first reply. I too have a 5660 -3 yrs, but have been having troubles since I going to 'fire up early' in Oct. to be ready. Various errors (E-2, E- 4), been told of 'air leakages', keep it clean, jump this or that, pull the combustion motor .....

I've always been good about cleaning, and now have been following anything else there Tech's come up with - yet some of their ideas seem to out-of-order. I was told to check for a burnt fuse way late in the game, would have saved a lot of energy! Then turned out my igniter was bad and they kinda hap-hazardly mentioned I could use Purell. A couple days ago I was trying again and got the E-4 so I called, after checking my 'file' admitting I've done about everything to this point, it was suggested I disconnect the stove from the exhaust vent pipe and be sure there was no ash blockage there - and also add the OAK (I didn't when installed on there okay). I'm in NW PA, even tho we're in a warm spell, it has gotten single digit and minus wind chill already, not a fun time to be drilling thru the wall again ...

Anyway, didn't mean to vent like this - but if you or others have "fixes" I am open! I meant to reply to ask about the USSC video on cleaning you mentioned, never heard of one. How can I access it? If you read this thanx for your patience, wish I had found this forum long ago ...
