Hey folks, hope everyone is doing well. It’s been a while since I posted.. hey I have an arrow wood-burning stove that has a solid door. I know that arrow need a glass door option, but I doubt I’m going to find a door that has glass and I was wondering if anyone had modified a door and inserted their own glass. I’m pretty handy with tools and or have fabrication connections. Just wondering if there’s any info or tips regarding modifying a door Any info on where I could source the glass

You should be able to buy replacement glass for another wood stove. You would need to figure out your cut out to match the glass. I don't think it would be easy to do, as the window seal/rope fits in a groove. It would be much easier to get the correct door. I have watched some video's recently of people making their own wood stoves, and having a glass door is not easy.

Is the door thick enough to tap holes deep enough for screws? If it’s steel, you can add material. If it’s cast, that would be more difficult.

The glass must be ceramic. It is likely to soot up quickly without a proper airwash system.

Is that stove from Australia? I can see why it will be hard to get a another door.

It says on the web site to contact them if questions. I complete door would be a good question.

It may be from Arrow out of Tualatin, Oregon. Pics would help.

So Arrow used to be made in OR and sold under Heatilator way back when. It looks like the brand was sold out and moved to Australia decades ago.

Adding a window is not a trivial matter with this stove, especially due to the door thickness. It would take searching persistently for a matching used stove with the glass from which the door could be canabalized from.

I did find this old auction and this appears to be what is being sought but it's a long shot. Personally, I would live with the stove as is or sell and upgrade to a modern, windowed stove.

That glass does not look very big compared to newer stoves??

That’s great. Any chance you have a link to the old Auction. That door is the exact door for my stove. The door slides UP and off so if I could find one it would be a simple swap.
But now that I know what the factory door looks like it’s not that Big of a deal to fab that Up. But I would pay $250 for that door real quick :)

be careful cutting that door open. It might be insulated, and we don’t know with what. It’s old enough to possibly be asbestos. Maybe those cut outs are for convection in the door?

Is there an air wash system? Otherwise the glass may blacken quickly.

It was a random find using Google Image and long over.
Given the depth of the door, I was wondering if a pyrex pie plate would suffice as a window, ala Elm stoves?
