Alderlea T5 question.....

Hey all,

My local dealer had a floor model discounted of the T5. I noticed after the last time I was there that the door on this particular unit ( pic attached of unit in the store) seems more decorative than the latest on PE website and pics of some units you all have posted.


In my hours of reading on this site I saw someone mention of it but cannot find that post again. Figured I would check and see if someone knows and if so, is this an older unit? Were there upgrades made to the more recent unit??? Like this door much better but performance is obviously my focus.

This would be an older model because they discontinued the decorative work on the door. I bought my T6 last September 2014 and it did not come with the decorative door. I wish it would have because it looks great. I know they added the EBT (extended burn time) technology to the newer stoves, but I can't speak to when they did it. Begreen would be a great one to ask.

It would not take much for PE to offer the grillework as an option. Keep requesting if desired. I'd take it over the ash pan.

That is a great looking door on that stove. The design on my T5 is identical the paint work however is not. Beautiful looking stove, the performance should be excellent. Love mine.

No EBT on the 2 cu ft PE stoves. They have a secondary air control linked with the primary that allows great control and some pretty impressive burn times.

I think only the T6/Summit and the new Neos have EBT.

Mike, i bought my T5 used off the showroom floor and got a great deal.it was 1 year old when i bought it... they used it as a demo... they are awesome stoves and easy to operate. i had a intrepid cat before this and the difference is night and day. i am also in PA....

All good info. I am fairly certain the T5 is what I need but a voice in the back of my head is also saying "do the T6, you have plenty of room in the hearth!"

Begreen gave great advice on a different post "radiant vs convection for my layout", where I put the blueprint of my first floor to get opinions from you all. Still milling it over.

Your posts Jetmech on the T5 were also good info, thanks! Seems like in same state and have same trade too..... I am A&P working corporate as mech on helo's and jets.....

Hope to place order tomorrow. Still a little unsure on the 5 or the 6!

If the T5 is at a significant discount I would go for that. Both the T5 and T6 will work in your situation, Given the small size of the dining room that the T5 will be in it will be able to easily heat the area and kitchen with some more heat going to the living room with fan assist. Unless I have it wrong it looks like you are primarily trying to heat about 1000 sq ft.

I bought my T5 from some very nice people in PA. It was an unfired demo unit in their showroom with the decorative door. I called PE to see if I could get the build date based on serial number and they said if I wanted the new door, they would exchange it for free. (I think it was a 2010 or 11, but I know 2012 was the new door.) A kicker was the warranty didn't even start until I received the stove. Great performer. I loaded it last night at 11:00 and was up at 5:30 with snow starting...the house was 71 degrees. Starting the big test right now as the morning low is expected to be 9. Here we go!

Small world Mike, i am a A&P and have been with a large cargo airline for 35 years... one nice thing about the T6 is the option to load east west... my t5 is designed pretty much for north south loading. just a thought, i loaded last night at 6;30 and at 4 am i still had coals to relight,, its 14 degrees out right now.. its a great stove no matter which one you go with.

Yes, that is one of the reasons I am considering the 6 as well as the opening in my hearth is 63" wide by 49" tall so either will def will fit with no problem. Drafty old farmhouse. I agree with Begreen that the T5 for the layout should be plenty sufficient. On the flip side if I do need an extra punch of BTU's the added piece of mind with the larger box in the 6 is helpful.

Ok, T5 floor model is now mine! Purchased today, hopefully installed in 3 weeks they say...... Now to go scavenge good quality wood (good luck me).

Good deal! That's a beauty. Mind my asking what you got it for?

Getting good wood is going to be important and very challenging at this time of year. I would pay extra and get a couple cords of kiln dried wood if possible. Don't trust anyone telling you the wood is seasoned unless you have a good reference for a recent purchase. I like to test for moisture by resplitting a few splits and checking the fresh surface of the wood before they start unloading.

Got stove for 2500. Tax tags liner to be installed plus them cleaning out this enormous chimney from top to bottom all came to 4800.

I am ordering meter and that is exactly what I plan to do. Only had to buy wood one other time and wasn't home when it was dropped off. Not only was I shorted the cord but I could have stuck a split in the ground and could have grown leaves by the next day, lol.........

Definitely learned from that mistake......

Jetmech, what is the square footage you heat with your T5, and is it open floor plan or doorways to other rooms?

My setup is a large ranch... stove is in the corner of a large room about 25 x 25... heat will travel through small hall way to kitchen and dining room. my bedrooms stay cold. house is around 2300 sq ft. i have the blower on mine but rarely use it, only if i get it a little to hot. i have single wall pipe and if i load full i have to watch my pipe temp. i have 16 feet of straight up chimney...
