Had to do some thimble work, but finnally got my recently purchased Napoleon 1450 installed Thursday night. (Thanks, Matt from Black Moose Chimney)

Had my first fire in it last night, broke it in as recommened in the manual, went better then expected considering this is my very first wood stove. got it up to 500-550 degrees and it stayed there, put a few small logs in before bed, figuring they were not big enough to leave coals for the morning, but much to my surprise there was still enough hot coals to get her going again in the morning.

Stove heats up the room perfectly, moving the hot air around the house will be a challenge but I am super happy.

Nice Stove!

I found the first few fires didn't get real hot - something about the bricks drying out supposedly, but I lit a fire on Dec 28 and haven't needed a match since.

Very nice! Welcome to the addiction. Meetings are in Room 302.

Very nice. Have I mentioned that I love big steel wood stoves?

Dreamy (my new (old) favorite adjective). I love all steel stoves...Great and Small. Rick

Maybe a time or two. :cheese:

Your hearth looks impressive...lots of room to work around the stove without dumping wood on your floor...very nice! As you can tell already, you should be able to get a nice long burn with it. So enjoy your long, uninterrupted sleep with your new stove; the coals will be waiting for you in the morning.

I have a few more for when that one gets old

What's the difference between the 1400 and the 1450?

The 1450 is kinda like the "basic black" version of the 1400. Same firebox, but none of the fancy things the 1400 can have like: enamel sides, gold door, ash pan, trivet - none of those. Basically it's a 2.25 cuft box with a black pedestal and blower (optional). Henry Ford would be proud ;)

As long as the dog approves of it I'd say you're good to go. I like the hearth area, too.

nice!!! ;) maybe time for a new user name - HAWTNH :D

Looks great. Your dog is going to love hogging the front of your hearth.

Congrats Cold man! Looks awesome!! Nice brick work, did you do it yourself? Only thing you have left to do is see how it does next year in January, when those cold New Hampshire days strike again. Not that you don't have some left. ;-)

Yah I was thinking I may have to change my user name now lol. Most of the brick work was done when we bought the house but I did have to redo the base so that the French doors would open. Duke loves the warmth. Now I want bone chilling cold and the forcast is showing a warming trend.

I was thinking the same thing HotNH :) The stove looks perfect in that setting.

To even out the temps, take a table or box fan, put it on the floor in the cold area that has line of sight to the stove room and blow the cold air towards the stove. Low speed usually works fine.

Awesome post. I got my 1450 installed tuesday also. I have had it running non stop since then and couldnt be more pleased. Coals in the morning take a little longer to get up and running but eventually it happens. I few later nights trying to get it up to 600 before I shut it down. I seems like it takes me about an hour to get it up there, I'm learning patience. My 1600 sq foot ranch has stayed between 68 and 72 and the furnace hasnt came on since tuesday. The best part is how good the radiant heat relaxed the radiant heat makes you feel. Enjoy

So whats it been, 9 days? LOVE the stove. keeps the entire house warm (above 65) even the second floor bedrooms (stove is in the basement) electric heat has been off since we got the stove installed. Weather has been seasonably warm around here (highs in the upper 30s/40s and lows in the 20s, So im still very curious to see how it will perform during a windy -15 degree night. I may be a 24/7 burner next year, didnt think I would, but im loving the warmth and the cheap electric bills!

You and the pup are now officially wood addicts. Welcome to the club! Be sure to get next season's wood taken care of soon. That makes a really nice difference.

Looking good! Have you tried moving the thermometer around in different spots? I found the centre to be a little cooler than the front corners.

I just went to give our dog a belly rub and was amazed, almost shocked at how hot his black coat was from him lying in front of the stove...

One thing I did to help my wife with the "where do I put the control thingy?" questions, was to use a small piece of copper (about 3" long and 1/2" wide) bend it like an L then clip it to the ash lip just beside the air control. It gives her a way to "see" where it's set so when I say put it at # 2 she knows exactly where it goes. Works like a charm.
