another new guy

hello, just wanted to introduce myself, as a lurker here for a while! i have learned alot reading this forum.
i settled on a Cumberland 3800MF. based on what I have read, it seemed like a good starter stove. I didnt really know if I would like a pellet stove. to make a long story short, i got a great deal on it for 1488.00. i have been burning barefoots based on my local hardware stores recommendation. only have purchased bags so far. Now a little bit about of the house. 1700 sqft single level ranch with oil heat, just got filled last week at 4.04 a gal! The stove running on the tstat set at 75, will keep the adjacent rooms around 70. the good news is i dont hear the furnace kick on unless there is a demand for hot water!

wish list, if and when they actually become production, currently in prototype phase. that would be sooo cool to have a quad that can turn itself into a jet ski the possibilities!

I do have pics! on my phone, i will upload them when i get a chance, not 100 percent complete still debating on the hearth pad, so i only have stove board right now on the floor.

Thats them! i will have a hard time giving up 40k though, i can rationalize 25 or just under 30 but not 40! my kid is done so it is time for dad to have some toys now

Anyways, welcome Craig. You are burning GREAT pellets, which to me, is the only way to do it! Every day I hear from my three year old that she wants a "Water Scooter" just like Dora and Diego ride! That thing ought to do the trick! Enjoy the stove.

Do you have an OAK (outside air kit)? Looks like the fixed portion of slider next to it so it would meet code but ... without the OAK you'll find the drafts in your house very quickly and waste BTUs by using warmed inside air instead of the cold outside air. The OAK kits run about $30-$40 depending on where you buy.

Since no one else mentioned - smoke and CO detectors up to date and in place?

Brother -in-law bowhunts in the Finger Lakes Hubby had a chat with a hunter he found at the end of our drive years ago and explained that there would be 4 kids there in a few minutes to catch the school bus escorted by two big dogs Hunter didn't realize there were year round residents ... would have loved to hear the later conversation between the hunter and his guide!!

OAK coming this weekend, ran out of time on initial install. realized last night i had a potential issue when i was designing my hearth pad i have to keep the height the same as it is now!! wasnt thinking in my excitement
Safety concerns have all been addressed. haven't really found any leaks yet, house seems tight. i do leave the door going to the basement open for a few reasons (cats out house resides there) So far so good, burning about a bag a day, basic cleaning daily, did a good one last night.
I love bowhunting, it does amaze me what some will do though! I live on the side of a mountain with 8 other houses all built on minimum 7 acre lots, only been here since October. while i was away hunting, the neighbor who i have yet to meet, came to the house to "tell" not ask my wife he would be cutting across our property to get to the big woods....i was like wtf, he didnt ask??

Hi Craig !Good to see you here.I am also a cumberland 3800 owner and have been an avid archer for most of my adult life.I don't bow hunt a lot anymore but my Son took over in spades and one of my issues is keeping room in the freezer for all the deer we process From New york and PA..Best of luck with your stove and a big hello from Western NY !
