Antique Jotul Indetification

Hi!

This Jotul stove has been in my family cabin in California since the 60s. I'd guess it was made in the 30's or 40's. My grandfather never bought anything new!

Does anyone have any information about the model or history of this style?

It is a jotul combifire made in the 1970s. There were several different models. There should be a serial number somewhere on it that could identify and date it

I've looked up Combifires previously, and they all seem to have a sealed door. This one has no sealed door and more straight sides. I've only seen one other one like it. Thanks, and I'll dig deeper on the Combifire line.

Are you sure it's a jotul? There were allot of knockoffs. Are there any casting marks?

So, It might be some kind of variant on the combifire #3. But the #3 doesn't have the same bottom, legs, or deflector knob on the right side.

I suppose it could be a knockoff, but it does say Jotul on the casting. Mine also says Jotul on the ash drawer, which is missing in the above listing.

I haven't ever seen one without a door. If the castings say jotul I am sure it is a jotul. For their time they were good stoves with the door. Without it it would just be a little step up from an open fire place. And you don't have near enough hearth infront of it

Yup, in addition to not ever buying anything new, Grandad wasn't much for building codes.

I'm looking to upgrade to a stove that is smaller and has air control. The cabin is under 800 ft^2 so I think we could heat it with something small enough to be safe in that hearth.

I don't know the hearth looks pretty small

It does resemble a Jotul No. 3 fireplace stove.

Hey Folks - A pal of mine purchased a green enameled Jotul Nr. 3 (not to be confused with the F-3). I've looked on Jotul's website, appears to be a part of the Combifire Series. I'm attempting to find any extra information on the Nr. 3, as Jotul's website has info on other numbers in that...

Yes, that might be a variant or a modification if the legs got lost or damaged.

Looks like the hearth is setting on a slab floor, is that correct?

Yours is the 5th one I've seen, all from SoCal. I believe it to be a NR.2 based on the casting mark, but no literature appears to exist.
