anyone ever had C/S/S wood stolen?

I'm just wondering if anyone has ever had their hard earned fire wood stolen?

Many years ago my dad had about 3 years worth of seasoned wood stacked up. He had someone ask him if they could get some wood for camp fires. Dad said it was fine. Well after the first load of "some" wood had gone, dad was still fine with the situation. Well apparently this guy told his buddy's where they could get camp fire wood. Based on the number of tire tracks left on the property either one person made many trips or 4-5 different trucks shuttled through the yard and cleaned house. After about 3 weeks, a 1/4 of what was there is all that remained. He keeps his wood on a second property on the edge of town. So it was easy for the people to go in at night and load up.

So dad will never let anyone take "some" camp fire wood anymore. He couldn't take any legal action since there was no possible way to prove anything was stolen.

Anyone else ever had this problem?

Ten years ago I came home from a business trip and went for a walk in my woods. Coming back I could see that some wood was missing from the back of my stacks. Maybe a dozen splits. My wife said there had been a noisy party on the place next to us that is through the woods behind the stacks.

The next day I went just inside the guy next doors property line and cut down and bucked a small tree. Guy came out and asked what I was doing and I said replacing the wood they stole. He went back without another word.

Might have had something to do with the shoulder holster.

Timber theft in my area is actually not uncommon. If it's C/S/S, the sheriff's dept usually takes the report. If it's a larger amount, or standing trees that were taken the local DNR forest ranger takes the lead.

I put a sign on mine that reads "one of these splits has a dynamite stick inside - steal at your own risk". Of course, my peacock watchdog is guarding my wood shed at all times, so no need to worry.

My wifes girl friends were over one of those -0 nights this winter. They said it would be great if they could get some heat from there fire place. But they had no wood. So I loaded there car up with enough wood for the night. So a week later, I'm back at our house and find some footprints in the snow. I let them know there was a robery, and the footprints looked like there's. They claimed it was the other ones plan to come back for another load. The fact was one drove the car while the other one loaded. What I should have done was claim it was someone else and seen if they would fess up.

I haven't had a problem, but a lot of my wood is near the road since that's the only flat spot with good sun exposure that was readily available. I saw where someone pulled up and took a look once.

I need to plant some evergreens as a visual block and set up a game camera. Maybe not in that order...

People can steal game cameras, too.

Had some go missing off the top of my stacks, when construction crews were building a house on the lot behind mine. I got so much timber off that lot when they cleared it, compared to the fraction of a cord taken, I didn't complain.

We caught a scumbag thief on one of our 4 game cameras. He was so fixed on the Honda push mower he didn't even see the game camera right in his face, He stole an engine off the hay elevator too. Deputies picked the guy up, they knew him from the Detention Center, and he told them where he sold the stuff, recovered the engine but not the mower and they did nothing to him.

We used to get firewood stolen every winter from our summer residence. That is why seasonal houses are harder to insure than your primary residence. Insurance companies dont like writing summer homes.
We finally started storing wood in the detached garage. The open fireplace was the only heat source for the camp.

Yes. Once or twice. Mainly kids taking a few splits for a fire pit.

I now stack green wood next to the property line. No wood has been taken since.

End of the day, it's easy to grab wood from the boundary. Trespassing on my property is another matter.

I never give wood away now, no to anyone, I will offer to take people out and cut. It's surprising how some people struggle to gather, process and haul wood. Real eye opener for them.

Not at our place, thankfully... but the Amish neighbor man told me he lost some wood to thievery a couple years before. He smiled as he was telling the tale; apparently whoever swiped the wood didn't know squat about firewood.

The thief or thieves filched from a stack of sweet gum that he burned in his shop stove. So it was no great loss.

simple = you want wood for a camp fire = find it your self or hand over a fist full of dollars , but saying that if your down on ya luck and need to heat your house and keep ya family warm , happy to give you some and help out for free .
