following up on the thread about CO dangers. wonder if anyone ever had a CO monitor go off from a real leak/ i never have in 5 years, even after a major backdraft that filled my house with smoke last week

I have.

With my century on a marginal chimney. It ran for years with no issues on the system. When getting it ready to sell I left the house with the stove burning and came back to the co alarm going off. The fire dept ruled out all of the appliances. The only thing left was the stove. What happened and why, I have no idea. Maybe I had a back puff at the wrong time.

I haven't, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

What type of monitor do you have does it have a numerical readout? Most store bought ones are not reliable and oly go off at high levels. Also smoke in the house does not necessarily mean dangerous levels of co. Much higher levels of co are produced in the coaling stage when there is little to no smoke. And i have never had one but i have been to many
