Anyone seen these boilers?

Looks like it does indeed have a secondary burn.

But it's outside...... Knowing how most of those get operated, I wonder how well it works with snow covered, frozen wood being thrown in a few hundred pounds at a time?
Fuel quality is critical in any gasifier and is often overlooked or ignored completely. A weeks worth of unseasoned wood or incorrect firing will probably plug those flue tubes in good shape.

Plus - since it doesn't batch burn, it cycles.

Even gassifiers can have issues if they have to cycle - they don't burn like that all the time, which is something that doesn't seem to get mentioned in the OWB gassifier talk. When they cycle off, they will smolder. One can limit or manage how much bad that will introduce if the unit is undercover in its own self contained (hence heated) space along with its wood supply. But throw in the outside issues mentioned above and you will still have some aspect of 'dirtyness' to deal with.
