Anyone try Surf Sand for the firebrick and white for the mortar like this?

I got a chance to try this combo.

Hi Temp 1200 Deg F Stove Bright Surf Sand with even higher temp VHT Flame Proof 2300 Deg F for the mortar! See pic below

does the paint last after use?

Hello

Depends on the stove, but it last quite a while and is good to help keep the stove from getting too rusty as well. :)
 
does the vht outlast the stovebright

No, VHT Flame Proof is just VERY Hi Temp flat black which is better for the inside of the firebox. Stove bright is Hi Temp that matches the outside paint and looks nicer because it is Satin Black.
