I'm deciding between a self-adhesive gasket or a regular gasket. I can't imagine self-adhesive holds up as well?

Is glue better for standard gaskets or high-temperature silicone?

I've never installed a gasket before.

It depends on where it is used a gasket held in place by other means eg clips or a cover
of some sort can be a bear to keep in place as you put all the parts back together.
If a self-sticking gasket is used you don't have to worry about it not being in place as you reassamble.
Everything has its place and I use what is necessary to get the job done

Thanks. As per the photo, it's part of a Jamestown J1000 venting assembly.

So it is bolted to a matting part. Then self-sticking would work fine

They make a specific glue for stove gaskets. I like to use the glue better as it gives you time to reposition gasket if needed.
