Ash Pan For Blaze King...Yes or No?

I have read a lot of opinions on ash pans, and it seems most feel the ash pan is useless. So, my question is specific to the King model...what is the usefulness and practicality of this ash pan?

We are going to purchase one (I hope) in a couple of weeks, and I want to make sure I get it right the first time. I am planning on the King Parlor with the fan kit. The one thing I am unsure about is the ash pan. The color and trim are entirely up to my wife...I know she doesn't want black, so we'll be painting it before it gets installed.

I have an ash drawer, standard on my Princess Ultra. I know lots here poo-poo
it and just shovel it out, but I like the drawer a lot. I feel it keeps me from
generating a dust cloud in the room, since everything is completely contained.

Ash pans systems vary with the stove maker. Some are decent designs, some are not. It's good to ask about the specific model or to go and look at one closely on the showroom floor.

I have read the owners manual regarding the ash removal. The part that seems as if it could be a challenge is reinserting the ash plug. I am assuming that cleaning the hole adequately, so the plug will fit properly, will be quite difficult. But, perhaps I'm wrong since I have not actually seen the set-up and how the plug truly works.

The plug is pretty easy to use and provides a very good seal. However, even with the big bin in the Ultra, I don't bother with it. With that firebox, I only empty the ash every 2 to 3 weeks burning 24/7. With the size of the door and the shape of the firebox, a standard size coal shovel is pretty efficient. I walk it right outside in the shovel and dump it in the ash can. If you are more of a clean the ash out every day type burner, I think you will like the ash pan/plug in the BK.

The two ash pans are not comparable. I have a Parlor and the ash drawer is not worth it. The pan is shallow and I have to shake it back & forth to get any volumn into the pan. I just shovel it out the door, much faster.

However, the King Ultra's ash pan is huge and can take quite a bit of ash. All the nods in favor must have Ultra models.
