Average Age of Wood Burners?

Average age of woodburners? That's an ambiguous question. Age of the wood burner? (My response - old.) How long has one been burning wood fires? How long since the last upgrade to the fireplace/stove/insert? ...Starting time of a SuperCedar?....
Thought I would be the youngest, I was wrong. 24, was 23 when I got the insert. Fiance is 23, both love doin stuff outside, might as well make it worth it!

The calculation you made was for a group of people with only you in it. Yes, the average age of a group with only you in it is 62.
But you said your average age--the average age of you as individual. That is a different calculation:
You were 0 for one year, 1 for one year, two for one year... 62 for one year. When you average your age over all those years your average age is (1+2+3+... 62)/62 = (31*62)/62 = 31 ==> your average age = 31. Check it on your calculator if you like.
In other words, half your life you have been younger than 31, half older.

Age = 64. I was surprised at the age distribution, but I think Billy's suggestion is a good one. Old folks (especially those who live in rural areas) are less likely to be internet users.
I'm surprised at the low average age too. I always thought wood burners were a bunch of old folks, and I'd be the young one. Maybe wood burning is more dangerous than I thought--"Live fast, leave a charred corpse"?
Is there an easy way to add an averaging function (glancing at BrotherBart) to the results panel? Eyeballing, it looks like the low 40s.

Yep, you'll know it. I don't think age necessarily has anything to do with it. There are some "old timers" on here that sure aren't old in my book. :coolsmile:
37 and my first year.. always liked fires, but realized after i bought my house in Feb 2010, the family room was always 5 to 10 degrees colder than the rest of the house. Replaced the fireplace with a Napoleon 1402 insert. I love having a room today at 77 degrees versus having a room last year at 67 degrees after running a 1500 Watt electric heater for 12 hours... Wood can put out so much more BTU vs electric it's staggering... my 2 cents...
