This morning it was - 16 F and wind chills -30 F to - 40 F. The house is 65 F and the thermostat is set at 69 F. The house boiler is at 165 F and the outside boiler is 180 F. The pellet stove is helping but still is cold in the house. Thankfully it suppose to warm up to zero today with winds dying down. The heat plate I have is 100,000 Btu but wondering if I should have had a larger one for days like today.

I could NEVER live where you live. On the worst days here, it's close to Zero. If it's below 50, it's cold to me. I constantly question why I still live in New England. I'm slowly convincing the wife to move South.

Geez! I don't know how any of you do it! LOL Saturday it was 65 here. Would have been a great day but the wind was blowing at 20 to 30 mph all day so I stayed inside. March in February. Where's my kite?

My uncle has a thermometer in his deer stand, which I was sitting in one fine day in Northern Wi (Langlade Co). Had the kerosene heater cranked in there, and it never got above 10 degrees. Wouldn't have wanted to be any where else, though.

Went out for a long walk on the snow shoes today - with the dog of course!

Very nice outside, but just taking off the gloves for one or two minutes made me quickly think about frostbite! It is one of those days where too much exposed skin will get ya!

Well - its days like these that provide a great test bed for output capacity of pellet stoves. In my basement (unfinished, 1300sqft, concrete walls, no insulation - but upgraded windows) I have gone through a Thelin Gnome, Parlor, and now the Harman P61. The Thelins were quite undersized, and temps in the basement could barely be budged over 63 - 65 (it is 13, with wind chill well below zero). The P61 on room temp mode, easily keeps the basement at 70, and that is with the stove set at 70 (I don't have to set to 75 and hope the basement warms up). Definitely the best investment I made was to purchase this stove.

On the other hand - my Quad Castile in the kitchen seems sorely lagging as it is fighting to keep temps in the comfortable range - even running at full tilt. There may be an upgrade lurking in the near future.

It's 11F degrees here this morning so we are having
a heatwave compared to your -40! Stay warm folks!

I left Buffalo NY, tired of the brutal winters (@20 years ago) an moved to Utah. Utah was fine until 3 years ago when it reached -10 and that was it, I now reside in Arizona it gets to only 20's. I think next move will be to the california Baja

It got down to 5 above zero last night. We have a large home so parts of the house the pellet stove can't reach. So our propane furnace helps on cold nights and days. Last night our furnace quit. Got down to 55 on that side of the house but was nice were the pellet stove is. I'm very glad I bought this stove this winter.

Here we go again in the good ole ozarks. First we had tornados in January this year and we just got our new roof put on and now winter storm power outages. January 2007 all over again except somewhat less power outages. About an inch and 1/2 maybe close to 2 on the trees and outer roads. Luckily ours was only out for a little over an hour and we had a generator to run our pellet stove and fridge and of course our tv. The generator was well worth last years bonus. And especially having to use it 2 years in a row and maybe more when i get home from work. We will see. A lot of people not so lucky. We get any wind it may still go out. Try and stay warm and be safe wherever you are.

Sherri, I'm down by Roach, MO. Not too bad here. Lot of sleet and some ice but not enough to be a problem.

I'm about 35 miles east of Springfield. I work in Springfield. So needless to say it was a long drive in. Glad you guys are good. Did you guys get any of the last tornados down that way? Or did they miss you?

We had no tornado's but were all around the surrounding area. You never know when things get bad. It seems the storms lately are more intense. I went to school in Buffalo, and Stoutland when I was a kid. Boy how Lebanon has changed since the 60's. I just recently purchased a pellet stove there. There is a dealer in Osage Beach but didn't like them as well as the small town one. He seemed eager to get my business.

Is it possible these stoves are more efficient the cooler it gets???? Here in Fredonia it hit 5 degrees and I only went thru a bag for the day. Up to that day I went thru 1-11/2 a day and the temperatures were much more moderate No thermostat just electronic controls which were set at 3 feed and 4 blower, just as they have been for the last few weeks????????????????????????????????????????
