Bird Flue.....

Just had a bird in the flue and then ended up in the firebox. Must have tried to build a nest in the top of the flue but fell down. We have only just stopped burning this year about 2 weeks ago. I opened the stove door and i was thinking of the best way to catch him when he just flew out of the stove and out of the opened lounge door. He had a go at pecking the glass rope while he was in there. Had a fire last night to try and stop any further nest builders.

just did a bit of research and i think the bird is a Common myna bird.

Just sat in the lounge and guess what i can here in my flue again...... what a dopey bird.......

Maybe put some screening around the cap for the summer. Minahs can be smart birds. We had one when I was growing up and it could talk up a storm.

Well this ones not that smart he's been in 3 times now. I will have to sort the flue cap out at the weekend. The last time he took a wrong turn and ended up flying around the house.....

But just think about the chimney cleaning service he provides.

They are usually croaked by the time I notice them in there. It does make removal easier . If a live one gets loose in the house they really make a mess from all that chimney cleaning they did on the way down....
I've had to add screens on several caps, the wife didn't appreciate watching bird TV on the wood stove

And kicking them out of the stove doesn't usually change their behavior. They will go right back to the place they think is a good spot to build a nest. 1/2" hardware screen wrapped around my cap has done a fine job for several years now.
