I am thinking of buying a used blaze king kej. It has the swing down door with no glass. I am use to running a napoleon 1900 with glass and a temp gauge in the pipe. My question is how is bad is the learning courve with not being able to see what the fire real time, and just running temp gauge?

I wouldn't buy it. Old school, BKs of today are not the same as that old stove. Early ones weren't even cat stoves.
Even with a cat, the KEJ is old technology, it would be a step up from an old pre-epa stove but it would be a stop down from the Napoleon 1900.
It would however make a good workshop stove.
