Blaze King Princess Ultra Install.

Well av been rattling on about the BK Princess that I bought.

So here it is.



The original install. Looks fairly raggedy. Pacific Energy Super 27.



Now in the shop with DWP.



Did some work i the basement, knocked that wall out, framed an insulated boarding, dry wall blaa blaa. Dragged the stove over to its final resting place. 2' of horizontal then 45* to 12" to 45* then 3' of vertical. Looks like it will have zero draft problems.



My chimney, ICC Excel 18ft.



Iam about 95% done. Just need a few screws here and there. Checked the unit over and found no defect. Ceramic Cat, the door seal is tight and appears to be lined up. Came with fans.

Yeah me too. Only a 3 week wait. I picked a stupid day to collect. Frikin pouring down.

IDE have it on now if I didn't need to get a permit.

WOW! You should be proud of you! It looks great! Thanks for posting such a wonderful picture. I was thrilled to see it because I think you have the same rock face that I picked for my new house . . . and the same siding color . . . and the same trim color! Now, thanks to you, I got to see what it'll look like installed. And here's the funniest part -- I had picked out a Pacific Energy Super 27 for my wood stove, but it'll be in the living room.

Oh yeah she's a bute thanks.

Anyhow, got her all ready for the inspector that never turned up today glad it's not the primary heat source in my home.



No fancy Hearth or stone but its in the basement

The fan kit cable reaches the nearest receptacle no worries.

Next is a DWP Condar pipe probe. Any good?

Opinions vary but I've always liked the look of the BK stoves.

The condar is the only reasonable way to measure flue temps on double wall. It is pretty dang good at it too. Just remember to slide it out before sweeping.

The looks have grown on me too. The ultra is the best princess model imo. Less shapely.

Well this is the third time the inspector hasn't turned up. Starting to wear my patients.

Anyhow, sold my Englander NC13 today. So all is not lost.

Another BK Princess Ultra install, coming up. I'm also from BC (Cariboo) and have been researching wood burning furnaces, inserts and stoves since moving here just over a year ago. The house came equipped with a Dutchwest DW2500 and a HE propane furnace, both installed in 2011. We were quite comfortable last winter and tried to make the best use of the DW insert, which threw a lot of heat, but the 1.3 cf firebox doesn't allow for very long burn times; had to put splits in during the night or relight in the a.m., then reload multiple times during the day. Inconvenient, not to mention opening the door so often left ash all over the living room, and we had to run the furnace a lot more than we wanted to.

The fp isn't big enough for a BK insert (plus evidently even our current insert isn't up to code due to the old brick fp), so we're ordering a BK Princess Ultra (freestanding) at the Cameo/ACE sale in 100 Mile House this w/e. My husband is very handy with many things, but this would be new territory for him, so to keep the insurance company happy and give us peace of mind, we're getting it professionally installed. Estimator says to be on the safe side we should install a Duraliner and chimney cap, instead of what he says is probably a single wall liner inside the 'questionably-cleaned' brick chimney. Hopefully we can sell the DW insert, along with its liner, to help pay for the new install, which he estimated could be as much as $3000 including the liner, not including the Princess herself.

However, we currently have a hearth that's 12" off the floor and we'd like the BK at floor level so will have to demolish the current hearth and put in a non-combustible surface with the required dimensions, plus fill the fp hole where the insert is and finish the wall behind. It's currently brick with vents in it, and a painted stucco coating (see pic). I guess we could just fill in the holes and repaint it, but I'm also wondering about resurfacing with a stone veneer of some kind. Anybody had experience with those slate tiles? (Rona has their Uberhaus brand in a "Ledgestone" slate tile.) Any other suggestions you'd be willing to share? I know I'm in the minority here with all you men, and I'm not a DIY person myself, but my husband isn't a computer guy so online research is my job.

Good luck with the new unit and install. Sorry I cannot help with the install. I basically pulled one stove this way and pulled the other that way.

I have it lit up and burning. One small fire then I loaded it a little more. Had smoke coming off the paint and finally got the cat lit up. She's drafting good now. No visible smoke out of the stack.

The thermostat is kinda cool. You can hear air rushing in then back it off, 'Clink' and it dies off. The wife is just amazed.

It's still going now. Am gonna let it I out.

So I did a few split start up burn. 150-180C stove top with a barely active cat.

Loaded her with a few more splits and she started to warm up good. 240C and solid active cat.

20:00 or so, Once It was down I loaded it 3/4 with Pine & Larch. Cat still active so didnt need to do anything. Set her @ 1.75 and walked away. 20 mins later its 340C+ ontop. Remained this way until I fell asleep. Woke at 06:30 and its cooled a little but still had 1/4 wood left I guess. Turned it up a little and climbed into bed. Wife came in the room at 09:00 and said its still on and pumping heat out.

Crazy Crazy.

I think the initial burn was poor until the chimney warmed up. When I did the last load the door had the typical draft resistance.

I think it is one of the best tools I have for measuring efficiency. I have a non-cat which is entirely different in nature but I usually adjust the air intake so that the flue temp is at 600. That way I know the chimney is staying clean and my fire is as efficient as possible. Below 600 and I tend to build up soot, above and I waste heat.

The Fluegard is definitely a quality piece, I'm on my second one. I'll echo HighBeam's comment above about sliding it out before sweeping. Did I mention I'm on my second one?
