Brown "woolie" turf...what the heck?

I'm moving wood to the front porch and have uncovered some "puffs" of a brown woolie
stuff, spotting pieces of the wood. It comes off easily; kinda like fine brown wool. What have I "discovered?" Do I need to be alarmed?

Thank goodness I was able to stop the arrival of the HAZMAT team before being totally humiliated! Stuff looks like it would add some nice insulation to my socks,

not sure what the name of it is without an internet search, but it's just a common fungus that grows on dead wood....I get it from time to time, nothing to be alarmed about at all...

the best guess I have is that the hairy looking thing is some kind of cocoon. Whatever it was probably fed on your firewood leaving the dark brown trailings, made a cocoon and then flew off somewhere.. certainly doesn't look like brown mold..

Touchthewindrider, are those grubs in that picture? They look like a local variant of a worm that spins little silk nests (usually out in bushes though).
