Burning Logs on Vermont Castings Vigilant (coal stove)???

I have a fantastic Vigilant stove from my previous home which I want to instal in my new place - but I only want to burn logs.
I purchased the stove as a 'multi fuel' unit which I took to mean i could burn either coal or wood, however the owners manual makes no reference to burning anything other than coal. Further I am told as there is no top air intake the chances are it will not burn logs well. The Vigilant seems to be a rare beast this side of the pond so any help from our North American cousins would be welcome.
