This is what happened today. I did some cutting, turned the saw off and put it down. When I went back to get it, I saw that the chain was off.

I had trouble getting the chain back on, and determined that one of the links was jamming in the channel of the bar. It seemed to be burred a bit, and I filed down, and it fit okay, although at first it wasn't smooth. I finished cutting and everything was fine.

Can you explain what caused that?

chain too loose, when it comes off, it rides on top of the drive sprocket, which causes the burr. Just file it flat and keep the chain tighter.
