Help! I have a Superior xDVR5-CMNS natural gas fireplace. I want to remove to ugly logs and replace them with fireglass. I would remove the current double loop oval shaped burner with a single pipe burner of the same length. Every fire shop says “NO WAYâ€, but that doesn’t make sense to me. I am not changing the BTU’s or fuel I’m just changing to decorations. Please help me figure out the “real†scoop. I know the manufacturer will say “no†because they didn’t test it that way, but I want to know if it is safe. Thanks

You answered the question yourself. It's not safe. It was not tested
for the method or the modification with which you want to use it.
If you want to change the look to contmporary, pull the entire unit
& replace it with a new one.
Look at it this way: It may be costly but it is much cheaper to replace
the gas unit than to replace the house. If lives are lost because you
modified the unit, they CANNOT be replaced.
