We have our gas logs starting the second year. Tonight coming in it smelled like a kerosen heater smell. Like carbon burning off. We have shut the unit down. Any reason why it would start to smell? It's a free standing Fireplace.

Have you cleaned them since last burning season? What you may be smelling is dust & if you have any pets,
dander or hair in the logset that is burning off. Either you can clean them or continue burning til the smell goes away.

It's been burning for about a month now. Just switch to a new tank we bought. been burning off this new tank for about 5 days.

vent free stoves are noted for this. you must clean clean clean your stove. do a lot of vacuuming of the burner and other areas in the fireplace insert
