Combustion fan stopped working well on sunday. tore it apart and cleaned it well and the stove was working better than it had all year. Last night noticed that the side plate (decorative outside) was out of line so i had to fix that and the stove would not stay lit on medium( started up, started feeding conv fan came on but 5-10 min later stopped feeding) as I was leaving this AM started it on high and working well but not on med/low. Is this likely still a fan issue? (burning cleaner than it has all year) anything else I should check?\

Looking into blower options.

have you checked your vacuum switch......try jumpering it

Combustion fan stopped working well on sunday
What were the symptoms that lead you to believe that it was not working well? How many tons have you burned since you cleaned your flue?
The usual questions >
Are all 8 little holes open in the bottom of the burn pot?
Is the dump valve completely closed?
Looking from underneath, is the dump valve hanging down on the right side? Is there a gap?
Have you done the dollar bill test on the door gasket?

Proof of fire snap disc (low limit) going and only sensing on high rate of burn?

Sunday woke up to black stove and stove not running. When I tried to restart fan was barely turning and loud. Checked the usual.

Stove had started to get lazy and incomleate burns so I thought some airflow investigation was becoming NEC. Didn't for see the fan. Since cleaning much cleaner and lubing motor much better burn but still a slight bearing noise so its going to be replaced.

Any opinion also on the motor posted? I have Grainger near my home.

There is no proof of fire snap disk on these Quads. It uses a thermocouple that should turn a light green in the control box at 200* and red at 600*. Is that happening? Good point, LakeGirl, though.

i will check later. it does continue to feed on medium untill abou the time the convection fan comes on to a few minutes after then stops.

I did not blow out the vac tube.

arent both motors .6 amps?

Yea, they are all .6 amps. I don't know what I was looking at. ==c

Yes, the vac tube is a good place to start. Make SURE you take it off at the vacuum switch end! I use 'canned air' like you use on a computer keyboard. Lasts for years! I've had mine plug up several times.

It just sounds like you aren't getting enough exhaust flow or you are bypassing the burn pot, which is the only place besides the door air wash that air should be entering the burn chamber.

That's good news. How old is the stove?

2006. stock motor is a jackel
It's probably time! Don't throw the old one away. See if you can replace the bearings and then you'll have a spare for almost no cost.

got this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/161189602723?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

Nice and quiet and revs up much faster than the old but not getting vacume with it. Had to put the old one back in (tried reinstalling a few times to make sure I didnt do something wrong) which is noisy but gets the stove going. The seller insists this is identical to OEM and searching his feedback show other castile owners w good luck. My motor has 11 blades this had 9, unsure what diff that makes but he is sending a 11 blade replacement. Hope it works.

seller doesnt think so.

"I don't think that it will make a lot of difference. We have sold over 1000 of these motors in the last two years with the impeller that yours came with and have not had any problems. My guess is that there is something in your stove causing the problem. As I stated earlier, if you order the OEM part from Quadrafire, the air output would be identical to what you now have and you would likely experience the same problem."

If your original has 11 blades then the guy is blowing smoke! At least he was willing to send you an 11 blade fan ---- hopefully. I looked through the archives and found pictures of a Sante Fe that had 11 blades. I honestly don't remember how many mine has. With two less blades in your setup, you would not get the same airflow hence less vacuum. The aftermarket one that some people use http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1688200382&pf_rd_i=507846
has 11 blades.
I can see a problem if someone with a 9 blade blower puts one of these in their unit and then starts complaining that their flame is too high, they're blowing pellets out of the burn pot, and they aren't getting the heat they used to get, all because they are blowing much more heat up the flue since the air has less time to transfer heat to the tubes. The converse of that would be your situation. :)

Got the 11 blade fan and the stove is working well. I also re cleaned and re-blew out the vac hose.

for reference this is the 9 blade fan that came with it

the OEM blade that came with the motor (2006) is closer to this with an inward slant to the blades, which in my opinion created a little more vac than either the above.

Its going to be a pain to try to get the old fan off as the screw is stuck and only an allen wrench type torx bit fits.

Got the 11 blade fan and the stove is working well.

So it works with the 11-blade fan but not the 9-blade one??? Quad replacement blowers are now using 9-blade fans:

mine would at best only run on high w the 9 blade fan.

cant view your link

The pic should be fixed now. I'm planning to replace my ancient blower in the off-season. We'll see if this 9-blade one works.

I don't know why they switched to 9 blades because the RPM hasn't changed. No way will you get the vacuum you did with the 11 blade one. Someone in China screwed up and it will take a real kick in the butt to get them to realize their mistake IMHO. I predict we will see a lot more pleas for help because the augers aren't running after digging and finding out they put in a new combustion blower.

Yeah, I was planning to keep this on the shelf until the old one dies. But that would not be a good time to learn if it'll work.

thought I may still be having vac issues as I was getting terrible buildup in the pot. Seems to be the terrible late season batch of north americans I got recently. fished out a bag of AWF and ran clean.
