Hi we just went through what to put under our stove and our inspector told us to get Micor and then use tile over that. The Micor was about 50.00 from a local fireplace shop. Very light and easy to cut, almost like drywall. Our inspector told us we could not use bricks or cement board unless we had the Micor. Get ahold of your building inspector, then you'll be safe.
