My friend gave me all 3 types of wood, I hear they are all good wood. Which 1 is better then the other. Also I would like to smell this wood I hear that they smell nice but with my stove and the door closed how do I go about to smell this wood burning.

with regards to BTU's (heat output), most charts and lists you can find on the internet will show you that Hickory is the best of these 3, followed by walnut, followed by cherry. To smell the wood burning follow these steps. 1) open door 2) smell smoke 3) close door. 
I have those 3 type of firewood in my stove as I type. Just go outside as soon as you fire up your stove and you will smell it. Each has its own good smell of its own.

cherry is my favorite smelling wood. If I get a little bit I try to burn it outside in the summer. As for BTUs, yes hickory is the best of the 3 by a pretty considerable margin.
Thanks for the info, I will definitely save the hickory for February. I can smell the wood burning from outside the house.
When i do reload I do get a whiff of cherry when it lights up right away. I will save some cherry for spring fire pitting in the yard.

For my use Hickory is the main wood with cherry and walnut mixed in as filler. For overnight burn and colder nights I add alittle more hickory.
