Chimney Cleaning

Decided to clean the chimney here at the end of the season, decided I probably will not have very many more fires. I clean the chimney once a year at the end of the burning season, also clean out and check the stove pipe and give the stove a good cleaning.

When I first looked at the chimney, I thought that it had a lot of creosote at the top.


This is the picture after running the brush through.


I felt a bit better when I scooped out all of that junk at the bottom.


Probably a bit more than many on here get but fairly consistent with the last few years.

Yeah I went the whole season instead of doing a mid-term cleaning this year and that is pretty much how mine looks. But I ain't going up there this week in the cold rain.

Bart you're right about that! I did mine on Sunday when the weather was nice. We're gonna get a lot of rain over the next 24 hours!

Cold and damp/wet here too. I came home from work and fired the stove up. I cleaned mine 2x over the winter, ran a brush down through but the last month or so of burning I wasn't burning the best wood so I will do it again good here soon

That stuff is the correct color, though, isn't it? The instant coffee stuff doesn't like to burn, or I couldn't get mine to burn when I tried. The shiny black is the flip side of that coin, though.

Looks like you did good if that's a full season. I'd be happy w/ it. Gotta get to mine. I tend to get the shiny crunchy stuff. Trying to burn hotter and did a major insulating job with metal block plate so maybe I will get more of the fluffy stuff. Good job Red.

Yep, we went without a midterm cleaning also. Had better, dryer wood to work with this time around. Got some brown powdery stuff, that was all.

The weather broke long enough for me to brush the flue... now we're back to burning again.

I took a blowtorch to the "coffee grounds" from my cleaning, and it wouldn't burn at all. I took that to mean that it's mostly just ash. No shiny black stuff except on the underside of my cap.

Its nice to have it cleaned and out of the way..Peace of Mind for next season..which at this rate will be in about 6-8 weeks..LOL
