These are pics from a recent remodel we did on our home, the home started out as a 1940 something ranch and turned it into a cape.Its 98% finished and were very proud of how everything turned out.We lived in it during the process, lets just say it was "eventfull".

thanks! I looked into several options of adding to the back of the ome and this was actually the cheapest route to go.

Just plain added a second story? Wow, that's great. Did the original first story and foundation require additional strengthening? Did you lose your original first floor ceiling? My 1963 ranch with 4:12 roof has some saggy rafters and it has been suggested that the whole roof could come off and be replaced with trusses or maybe a second story.....

the second floor was reinforced, new joists etc, its a poured foundation and was strong enough so no additional work there.It actually looked as though the original owner had intention of adding a second floor but decided tonot do it after the house construction started.If it had been block it may have not been possible, or so Ive been told.

The only thing using the chimney is our oil furnace, and occasionaly the fireplace, cleaned every year, I have seen no problems since I lived in it.I have heard that same thing though, temp differences between inside and outside etc.
