All,

just wondering, my Chinook 30 has the ash drawer, which I never use, I just shovel the ashes directly from the firebox. To utilize the drawer, the firebox floor has a little (4x4"?) steel insert or plug one lifts up with a welded-on loop to remove it. That loop is obviously always in the way when shoveling the ashes directly.

Does anyone know where I can find a replacement where I can cut off the loop with an angle grinder? Or a part number? Trying to get my local dealer (who only does BK on the side) what I want is going to be a nightmare.

I'd rather do that with a replacement than my original one, I'm not sure if cutting off the loop leaves a hole or not. Depending on the price of that insert/plug.

There should be an exploded view of your stove in your manual? Find the part number and search it online to see how much it is?

Very good point, I wasn't aware it might be in there, but it is. S.Z3808, seems unobtainable online but is used in both Chinook and Ashford.
Hmm...

I wonder how other people with these stoves remove the ashes, maybe there's a better way.

If it’s like my kings it’s a loop welded to flat plate and can be removed with a tool of choice. I did find my ash plug in the outdoor ash pile one spring when I noticed it was missing during end of season cleaning. I didn’t realize it was missing because I have the ashhole (😬) blocked off below with a magnet to prevent any air leakage up through it into the firebox.

Can you elaborate on your ashhole (;))? Like how did you do that exactly?
