Cleaning double wall with a damper?

I finally have that double wall pipe and damper I've always wanted. I should have done it 10 years ago. I feel much more safe letting it burn a bit hotter and have bought myself at least 50 degrees of extra soapstone temp from when I had the single wall. It's time for a mid season cleaning. My question is, how do you clean pipe that has a damper in it? I used to just run my steel brush through the old pipe which obviously won't work anymore. What's a girl supposed to do?

I think I just found my own answer. I want a soot eater, yes?

take the damper out to clean it. That is one reason i avoid putting them in unless they are really needed

I always thought that the dampers came in their own short section of pipe so they could be pulled easy to sweep..?

Yes, that's what I've seen for double-wall dampers. They are in a 6" section of pipe.

Ahhh, so that's why the damper is in a little 6" section. Just take that section off and clean the rest. I was trying to save myself the mess/hassle of taking the pipe apart, but if that's how it has to be done, than so be it.
