Clearence to heating oil tank ?

I have only one location for my stove, a separate flue in the cellar designated for a stove when the house was built, the other two are fo oil fired furnace and upstairs fireplace. With my stove installed I will hava a distance of 53 inches from the side of the stove to my 275 galloon heating oil tank. Is there a problem with that ? Do I need to erect a cinder block wall between the sove and tank ?

I have no idea what code says, I'd call the building inspector and see what he says. Personally, I'd build a wall. If you don't want to use block, you could quickly (and easily) build a stick wall and cover it with a couple sheets of cement board. My 2 cents.

I think the code used to be a furnace or boiler had to be at least 5 feet from the oil tank, though I'm not sure about current code. A heat shield wouldn't hurt and would probably increase your peace of mind by an order of magnitude. What is the ceiling height down there?

I was thinking teh same thing rather then use block jsut throw up a qucik wall with cement board. If it comes in a 3 x 5 shhet that would be about rigth, 3 feet high should shield the drect heat and the length is plenty. Once Piece thick is enough, correct.

ceilings are about 8 feet, I'm going to line the ceiling over the stove with cement board also.

Depending on which code you follow (yes, being a plumbing/heating tech... I've seen many times where code contradicts itself in a code book so it's aup to how your local inspector/code official sees it.

Basically, it's 5' or 7'..... so unless your local inspector will allow it, 53" won't cut it either way. At least that is what they say here in CT. We are on the 2003 International Mechanical Code and 2003 International Plumbing code currently as well as NFPA Fuel gas code.

I need to repair the handle of the front door of the Upland stove. I'm handy with would and can easily make it out of wood. Is a wood handle practical for a wood stove ? Should the wood be treated with anything ?
