Hello, we just purchased a home and it came with a Soapstone Wood Stove. I "think" it is a Colossus Soapstone Hybrid. Has anyone on here have any experience with this stove? In our last home we used a Lopi fireplace insert as our primary heat source and it heated our whole home (approx 1000 sq).

Thank you in advance for your advise.

can you post pics of it? I know nothing about the clossus stove but it looks allot like the tulikivi masonry heaters i have seen regardless you need to get the instruction manual for it because they are burnt very differently than regular wood stoves. They are burn very hot for relatively short periods of time to heat that masonry mass and the heat is then slowly released.

Never seen that before.
Has a small insert though I would not want that for 24/7 heating but that might just be me.
Interesting all the same.

If it is infact what i am thinking it is they are very good for heating all the time they are just burnt very differently you don't need to have a fire all the time like a traditional wood stove

What, like one of those huge masonry fireplaces?
I doubt this is anywhere near that.
What did it say..for 1,000 sq.ft or something.

Yes it is the same concept just smaller scale but they are still massive units with allot of stone in them. That is if it is like the tulikivi units i have worked on.

There are only so many btu's in firewood.
Now you can do better by not letting so many go up the flue somehow, that's all good.but all that soapstone takes btu's to heat up in the first place. The soapstone or any mass does not create btu's. mass around the stove just delays the release of the radiant heat into the room is my stance. Yes it will store some like a bank but only what it stole in the first place.
I think I'm one of the few that feel that way though.
I could be wrong,just ask me wife..lol.

Yeah we need a pic of the actual stove. Several of the masonry heaters look similar to each other.

That isn't even in the conversation. Let's find out what stove he is dealing with here.

I think it is. they are asking about heating their home with it,and it may.

That's a pretty specialized item; if the prior owner dropped $6,500 on a stove they must have been pretty serious about using it. Can you get the details from the owner?

The emissions rating is pretty high, I just noticed that.
Really looks nice though.

hotcoals the op doesn't even know if it is that stove or not yet lets try to figure out what it is first. I just said it looked allot like the prefab masonry heaters i have worked on. And from what i have seen those are very good heaters that leave very clean chimneys.

Well why can't we talk about that one till they say diff..just joking..lol.
6.4 grams/hour is awful high nonetheless.

haha ok yeah that is pretty high. I cant really comment on the colossus i have never seen or worked on one

I Have the the same stove just different soapstone it is a cast iron stove surrounded with soapstone. The stove is a Bef 520h, small fire box. Burns really clean.
