50's stonework at our local bsa camp. Same type of sandstone my land is on. I need to do a surround or something out of this stuff.

What a waste of good firewood. ;) A freestander would really look nice in front of it. ;lol

Similar set-up at a local Kiwanas summer camp. Unfortunately, the windows were original too so while the fireplace could throw heat, it lost a lot to the great outdoors!

Hi, A older relative has a fireplace that she loves. I've suggested and insert, and bought one for her, she finally said "will you get mad if I say not to put it in?" So she's happy with the fireplace, like you say: ambience.

Her chimney is in great shape, so she'll burn forever more and love it.
