Corn storage trailer

I finally found a (almost) perfect solution for storage of corn. I never wanted to keep a huge grain wagon close to my house, so i've been trying to find an alternative way to store bulk shelled corn. I have been using large roll a way trash cans and keep 25-30 bushel in my garage, but that is a real pain and takes up a lot of floor space. A couple of days ago I found a neat little trailer on Craigslist from a semi-local trailer company that was contracted to build some small trailers specifically for people that burn corn. It will hold 30 bushel of corn, maybe 35 if it got really full. It also has a fold up tongue and is only 5' 10" tall, so it tucks nicely in my garage.

Has anyone ever used anything similar? I say it is almost perfect because I wish it held 50 bushel, but the local grain elevator is only about a mile away so I can easily refill it when it runs out.

Nice little unit. I sold my gravity wagon a few years back. I use my utility trailer that is 5x10, and has 1 ft. metal sides. It holds 40 bushel. And corn is close by, so easy refill too. kap

Nice set up. I'd like to find one of those with a tandem axle that would hold the equivalent of 4 tons or so or about 140 - 150 bushels of corn then it would be a fill it once a season or so. Then I wouldn't need to worry about any barn storage etc;

Gravity wagons I've seen here are rather pricey used what I have seen. I'll keep looking though. Space is not an issue but I like neat and tidy self contained type stuff like this little trailer. What do they sell for and who makes them?

Apparently they only made a small run of them in 2010 and discontinued them. The guy that I bought it from said that they sold for $650 new from a local farm and fleet called Blaines (upper Midwest)

The gravity wagons I've seen for sale used here are beaters and they are going for $700 plus depending on how unroadworthy they are. Most wouldn't make it across a flat grassy field. So I am still looking but have not been looking real hard either. Just occasionally.

Depending on what is available when I get serious I might just make my own with the help of a friend who owns a fab / welding shop. He also has a pellet stove but no interest in burning corn........ Yet.

The price hike pellets have taken are leaning me to burn the much cheaper corn. I have a farmer very close by and corn is half the price of pellets per ton. I did the math but have just been too busy to get the corn going. This coming fall will be a different program. Pellet bags are the answer for now for ease and simplicity. Plus my costs per ton for good pellets has been reasonable.

I like that trailer though. Even has the hoops to tarp it at the top etc; Cool little rig!

I wonder how sturdy that is when loaded and unhooked? Looks heavy on the back side to me. I've got a dump trailer just like that and I can't unhook it loaded or it would flip over.

It has a couple of small jack stand legs that get pinned in place. When they are down, the tires are a couple of inches off the floor, and more stable than it looks

Bags, Just a thought but a Mixer Mill holds approx 100 bu. , Fairly ready to use but you would need a way to power the pto. A small gas engine or Electric motor with a pulley would do. Would need a pickup to pull it or have corn delivered.
I had considered this however we ended up with a 100 bu grain bin in the basement with an auger to put the corn into the Corn Furnace. Hire a farmer with gravity box to deliver corn once a year. Didn't know how nice it is to be Lazy!
