Does a crack in a burn plate necessitate replacement? This is the rear burn plate on a Jotul 3cb. It’s a visible hairline crack about an inch or so long starting at the top. Some 10 years ago when I noticed the crack I removed the plate and the crack was not full depth and the plate was solid. It still looks the same as I’m cleaning for the end of the season. The burn plates aren’t expensive but can be a pain to replace. Opinions welcomed.

It bears watching. Over time it will get worse and eventually warp to the point where the plate is no longer protecting the stove back. To slow it down and limit its spread, drill a 3/32" hole at the end of the crack.

Thanks. I forgot about the drilling method to mitigate a small crack. The crack doesn’t seem to have spread since I first noticed it some years back. I’ll give it a small drilling and hope it lasts another 10 years.
