Craigslist Outrageous Prices!

Cherry firewood for sale! it has been seasoned for a year and is premium quality 16-18" I am asking 150 per face-cord.
I understand wanting to make a little cash for yourself...but really???? It's 62F outside!

Are face cords common in ny? I dont know but that term bothers me either its a cord or not. If most of that "face cord" is 16" you are getting shorted. where as no matter what the length is a cord is a cord

Yes if they are cut to 16" longer than that the seller is getting shorted shorter and you are. It is not a real measurment. And with my old stove a face cord would have been a half cord.

There is local woodseller that advertises seasoned fire wood by the truck load for $150, he states its by his truck load, I expect its ford ranger short bed.

Absolutely ridiculous. I can get a true cord of kiln dried oak at 18% moisture for $300. I also have a guy who delivers truly seasoned and dry mixed hardwood for a $185 a true cord, and stacks it.

Here's what I observe: wood burning is becoming more and more common and with the advent of designer EPA stoves, it is almost becoming an upper crust type of thing to have a wood burning appliance that sits and looks pretty. I say this because I observe it all over our region. Very few folks actually heat with their stove but just want one to make them appear woodsy when they entertain folks for dinner. These folks have no idea of what firewood has, does, or should cost. Therefore they look for the 'best' wood and just go for it. I know several folks guilty of this recently. A buddy of mine got a 'cord' of firewood delivered recently for his new custom outdoor pizza oven. He paid $300 and got about 1/3 cord of somewhat seasoned mixed wood with an average split size of about 8-10 inches. This is a smart guy too. All he would of had to do was ask one of his at least 10 friends who are year in and year out wood burners and he would have been guided in the right direction.

Unfortunately we will always see these astronomically priced few ads on Craigslist because there is a growing number of folks who fall for it.

Another ripoff is the plastic-wrapped packs of firewood that you can find in front of many grocery/convenience stores. Four small sticks for $4-$6, depending on the store. I shake my head every time I walk by one of those displays.
