I've been experiencing a problem with my chimney dripping crosote on to my roof--once i allieviate the problem i need to try to clean it off Does anyone out there have any suggestions as to how to clean these stains off of my shingles? any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated

not sure it would work on shingles but i always used oven cleaner and a stiff brush on the brick...i think this might be a tough fix since the shingles are not a hard material.
I think over time weather will remove most of the stains as long as more aren't added constantly. I wouldn't
use any chemicals on them since the shingles are probably asphalt base and this could ruin them by eating
them away.
I think most wood chimneys do stain the roof a little but shouldn't be dripping on them. You need to burn hotter
and make sure the wood you are burning is very dry before using it.

You could try using greased lightning or simple green while using a GI brush.
Those cleaning compounds amaze me with what they'll clean but personally I've never tried them on creosote but it's worth a shot.
Also unless you have a white shingle roof I'm surprised to hear that you can even see a creosote build-up or stain. You might want to investigate that some more and lock down that problem.

I have used OXYCLEAN to get rid of the northern roof stains- mold etc, and it works great, it took off stains from the brick part of the chimney also. I got on the ridge and poured from pail the mixture of oxyclean and water down the roof, and it kinda works by itself, rough spots can easily and gently be brushed with a soft brush like the ones they use for tarring. that stuff is also safe on anything on the ground beneath, ie plants, grass.
